Jarret Marque Crump, a 21-year-old black man, was shot and killed Monday, Nov. 25 in the 800 block of West Century Boulevard in Vermont Vista, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

Crump was driving a 2003 green Infinity with a female passenger about 5:40 p.m. when he came to a stop at the intersection of West Century Boulevard and South Vermont Avenue, said LAPD Det. Sal LaBarbera.

Surveillance footage from a nearby auto shop showed that a person from a dark-colored SUV exited the vehicle, walked through traffic and shot at Crump and the woman over the hood of a car in the middle lane.

Crump was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:38 p.m., said Lt. Joe Bale with the coroner’s office. An autopsy showed that Crump died from a gunshot wound to the neck, Bale said.

The female passenger was treated for a graze wound.
