Jesus Cardenas Salas, 21

Jesus Cardenas Salas, a 21-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Friday, Dec. 24, in the 5900 block of Carmelita Avenue in Huntington Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Police received a call regarding shots fired and a person down about 3:15 a.m., said Huntington Park Police Lt. Tony Porter.

Authorities arrived and pronounced Salas dead at the scene, Porter said. According to coroner's records, he had several gunshot wounds to his head and chest.

During the investigation, detectives learned Salas and a group of men were drinking when an unknown person walked up, a fight began and the shooting occurred. No one else was hurt.

Witnesses described the shooter as a Latino, about 18-years-old, 5 feet 3 and weighing close to 115 pounds.

Porter said the shooting was possibly gang-related.
