A story for every victim

Jesus Flores-Garcia, 49

Jesus Flores-Garcia, a 49-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Monday, May 30, in the 3500 block of East Avenue R in Palmdale, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Flores-Garcia was visiting a friend in her home when the woman's former boyfriend and father of their children arrived about 3:40 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Joe Mendoza.

The ex-boyfriend became upset when he saw Flores-Garcia there, Mendoza said, and pulled out a handgun and shot Flores-Garcia multiple times in the upper torso.

Flores-Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:58 p.m., according to coroner's records. The woman and other family members in the house were not injured, Mendoza said. The gunman ran from the home and drove away in a pickup truck.

Flores-Garcia "was just a friend, visiting inside the residence," Mendoza said. "We couldn't confirm any romantic relationship between the victim and the woman."

Police identified the ex-boyfriend as Gonzalo Apatiga Lopez, 52. He was said to be driving a black 2002 Lincoln Blackwood, license plate 7B89645. Lopez is considered armed and dangerous, Mendoza said.
