A story for every victim

Jimmy A. Deleon Hernandez, 32

Jimmy A. De Leon Hernandez, a 32-year-old Latino male, was shot multiple times in the 1400 block of Gard Avenue in Norwalk on Wednesday, Jan. 2, according to authorities.

Sheriff's deputies had gone to the block about 4 a.m. to investigate reports that gunshots had been fired, according to an L.A. County Sheriff's Department news release. Deputies checked nearby hospitals and found De Leon Hernandez, who had been pronounced dead on arrival.

He did not have identification with him.

A week later, sheriff's homicide investigators arrested Andrew Ramos, a 28-year old Latino, in connection with De Leon Hernandez's slaying. Ramos was arrested in Anaheim after an hours-long standoff with police who were tipped to his location.

Anaheim police Sgt. Michael Bustamante said that sheriff's detectives tried to serve search and arrest warrants at a townhouse in the 1200 block of La Palma Avenue about 4 p.m., but Ramos refused to come out.

Anaheim police, using a bullhorn, were able to persuade Ramos to give himself up two or three hours later.

At the time of Ramos' arrest, sheriff's officials said the motive was unknown. He is being held in jail in lieu of more than $2-million bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 21, according to county jail records.
