A story for every victim

Joaquin Martinez, 38

Joaquin Martinez, a 38-year-old Latino, died Thursday, Sept. 2, after he was stabbed in the 11600 block of South Avalon Boulevard in the Green Meadows neighborhood of South Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Martinez, a resident of Bellflower, had been riding a train on the Metro Green Line when he and another man got off at the 116th Street station around 9:53 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Rosson.

The two men got into the station elevator, Rosson said, and when the elevator opened, Martinez had been stabbed multiple times and the man who was with him fled.

Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:05 p.m. with multiple stab wounds to the torso, according to coroner’s records.

Investigators have been reviewing film from the station’s security cameras and believe Martinez knew the man who stabbed him, Rosson said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
