John Earl Jackson, 26

John Earl Jackson, a 26-year-old black man, died Thursday, April 23, after he was shot in the 1200 block of West 87th Street in Westmont, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly before midnight on April 22, Jackson and Kemmel Shackelford, 38, were standing in front of a home when a black man drove up and got out of his car.

The man got into an argument with Jackson and Shackelford, then pulled out a gun and opened fire, said Det. Todd Anderson with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The gunman then got into a dark-colored sedan and drove away, east on West 87th Street, Anderson said.

Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:03 a.m. on April 23. Shackelford also died at the scene.
