A story for every victim

Joong Woon Kim, 50

Joong Kim, a 50-year-old Asian man, died Saturday, Nov. 20, two days after he was shot in the 10600 block of Chiquita Street in Studio City, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

A neighbor called 911 about 1 a.m. Nov. 18 after hearing gunshots and seeing Kim on the ground in front of his home, said Det. Mark O'Donnell of the Los Angeles Police Department's North Hollywood Division, who is handling the case.

Kim was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he remained until he died Nov. 20. He had been shot several times, including once in the neck, according to coroner's records.

O'Donnell said Kim lived at the home with his wife. She was asleep inside at the time of the shooting.

Witnesses told police they saw at least two or maybe three people wearing hooded sweatshirts fleeing the area after the shooting.

When asked if the shooting was related to a robbery, O'Donnell said it was doubtful since police found $2,800 in Kim's pocket.

Anyone with information about the killing is asked to contact O'Donnell at (818) 623-4075. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
