A story for every victim

Jorge Castillo, 31

Jorge Castillo, a 31-year-old Latino, was shot and killed on Sunday, Oct. 16, in the 12000 block of Molette Street in Norwalk, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Deputies were called to the residential area about 2:29 a.m., Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Jauch said, and found found two Latino men lying in the street with gunshot wounds.

Castillo, a Downey resident, had multiple gunshot wounds. A 19-year-old had been shot once in the torso but “didn’t have any life-threatening injuries,” Jauch said.

Both men were taken to a nearby hospital, where Castillo was pronounced dead at 3:24 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Investigators don’t know why Castillo was in the area, Jauch said. The other man, who lives in another part of Norwalk, told investigators that he had been visiting a friend in the neighborhood and he didn’t know anything about Castillo, Jauch said.

No weapons were found at the scene, Jauch said. Residents reported hearing gunfire, but no witnesses have come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
