Jose Fernando Arellano, 31

Jose Fernando Arellano, a 31-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Monday, March 20, near the intersection of East Eighth Street and South Fresno Street in Boyle Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 7 a.m., Arellano was about to get into his car, a Honda Civic, when he was shot, said Los Angeles Police Det. Jose Ramirez.

Soon after, residents reported hearing gunshots, and police were called.

Arellano was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:13 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Arellano, who worked at a funeral home as a landscaper, lived in San Bernardino County and did not have an arrest record, Ramirez said.

Police are looking for additional witnesses in an attempt to determine a motive for the killing.
