Jose Luis Duarte, 26
Jose Luis Duarte, a 26-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, Dec. 14, in the 17200 block of Lambert Road in Whittier, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly after midnight, Duarte and a young woman were walking east on the sidewalk when Duarte got into an argument with some people across the street at a convenience store, according to a news release from the Whittier Police Department.
As Duarte and the woman walked away, a silver or gray sedan drove past and a person inside fired several shots striking both Duarte and the woman.
Duarte was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:33 a.m., according to coroner’s records. The young woman is expected to survive.
