A story for every victim

Jose Luis Sanchez, 42

Jose Luis Sanchez, a 42-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, April 16, in the 700 block of South Westlake Avenue in Westlake, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly before 11 p.m., officers from the LAPD’s Rampart Division responded to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon at an apartment complex, said Los Angeles Police Det. Ray Martinez.

Police found Sanchez, who had been stabbed multiple times. Sanchez was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:57 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Investigators believe that Sanchez and another person were on the second floor of the apartment building when they got into an argument, Martinez said. The other person pulled out a knife and stabbed Sanchez multiple times in the hallway, Martinez said.

The suspect was last seen running out of the apartment building holding the knife, police said. He was described as Latino between the ages of 25 and 35. He is approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall with short brown hair and a heavy build, and police said he was last seen wearing a black shirt, black shorts and black shoes.

Sanchez did not live in the building, but was there to visit a friend. The incident is not believed to be gang related, Martinez said.

Anyone with information can call Martinez at (213) 484-3642. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
