Jose Luis Toloza, 35

Jose Luis Toloza, a 35-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by a sheriff's deputy Wednesday Nov. 14, in the 12800 block of Cookacre Street in East Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

A deputy had stopped Toloza about 7:40 p.m. when he attempted to flee, authorities said.

After a brief foot chase, Toloza began fighting with the deputy and attempted to gain control of the deputy's service weapon, authorities said. The deputy then shot and killed Toloza.

The shooting will be investigated by the Sheriff's Department's homicide and internal affairs bureaus, officials said.
