Jose Antonio Madera, 19

Jose Madera, identified by the coroner's office as a 19-year-old white man, was fatally shot Saturday, May 7, in the 2000 block of Isabel Street in Mount Washington, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Officers responded to a radio call reporting the shooting about 12:45 a.m. and found Madera and another 19-year-old man wounded, according to an Los Angeles Police Department news release.

Madera was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The second victim was taken to a hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.

Authorities said the assailant(s) were last seen running away from the area in an unknown direction.

The motive for the shooting appears to be gang-related, police said.
