Jose Manuel Silva-Nieves, 20

Jose Manuel Silva-Nieves, a 20-year-old Latino, died on Sunday, Aug. 23, after he was beaten during a fight in the 6700 block of Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, according to authorities. 

Silva-Nieves, a disc jockey from Maywood known as "DJ Steez,” was at the Cashmere Club when the fight occurred, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department. 

LAPD officers received calls between 12:15 and 12:45 a.m. about a brawl at the nightclub, according to the release. By the time they arrived, Silva-Nieves had collapsed, and he was taken to a local hospital where he was declared brain dead on Aug. 23, according to the release.

Silva-Nieves was pronounced dead at 6:42 p.m. on Aug. 23, according to coroner’s records.

Friends have started an online fundraiser to help Silva-Nieves’ family. The GoFundMe account describes Silva-Nieves as funny and hardworking; “Music was everything to him!”

The results from his autopsy are still pending, but the LAPD is investigating the case as a possible homicide, according to the department release.
