A story for every victim

Jose Roberto Ramos, 29

Jose Ramos, a 29-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Monday, May 23, near 87th Place and Compton Avenue in Florence-Firestone, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office, said Ramos was working as an ice cream vendor at the time of death.

In the late afternoon, he was approached by two males and two females who demanded that he give them ice cream, Winter said.

Ramos refused their request, at which point one of the assailants walked across the street, grabbed a rifle and shot him.

The victim was taken to a hospital in Lynwood where he died less than an hour later, Winter said.

Anyone with information about the identity of the shooter or the circumstances leading up to Ramos' death is asked to contact the sheriff's homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500. Tipsters who would like to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (800-222-8477).
