A story for every victim

Jose Rene Espinoza, 46

Jose Rene Espinoza, a 46-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Saturday, June 11, at Union Pacific Avenue and Bonnie Beach Place in Boyle Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies were called to the area about 12:29 a.m. on a “shots fired” call, said Lt. Steve Jauch.

When they arrived, the deputies found Espinoza lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound, Jauch said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:51 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Investigators believe Espinoza was shot where he was found, based on evidence found at the scene, Jauch said.

Espinoza lived in San Fernando, he said, and investigators don’t know why he was in the area. They have no information about suspects or a motive for the slaying.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
