Jose Santos Mejia, 32

Jose Santos Mejia, a 32-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, March 18, in the 100 block of East 80th Street in the Florence neighborhood of South Los Angeles, according to coroner’s records.

Shortly after 3:45 a.m., Mejia was pulling out of a driveway in a dark-colored sedan when three men walked up and someone began shooting, Los Angeles Police Det. Dave Garrido said.

Mejia’s car rolled into a wall, and he was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:56 a.m., according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. No one else was injured.

The gunmen fled to a light-colored sedan that was waiting nearby.

Police said Mejia was moving his car for a neighbor in a shared driveway. He was not a gang member, and police are trying to determine a motive for the shooting.
