Joseph Chester Goudeau, 35

Joseph Chester Goudeau, a 35-year-old black man, was shot and killed on Thursday, Sept. 1, in the 14100 block of South Lemoli Avenue in Hawthorne, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. 

Goudeau, a resident of Hawthorne, was talking and drinking with people in a vacant lot across from a restaurant about 8:30 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Rosson.

An argument broke out between Goudeau and another man, and escalated to a fight. During the fight, someone pulled a gun, shot Goudeau once in the upper torso, and then ran away, Rosson said. 

Goudeau was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:45 p.m., according to coroner’s records. 

The Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau is handling the investigation for the Hawthorne Police Department. Anyone with information is asked to call (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
