Joseph Roman Duarte, 18

Joseph Duarte, an 18-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, March 18, in the 800 block of Bay View Avenue in Wilmington, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Duarte was standing on a sidewalk about 2:20 p.m. with a friend when a person walked up and fired multiple rounds at the two men, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department.

The gunman then fled to a waiting vehicle, police said.

Duarte was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:42 p.m.

The friend, 24-year-old Cesar Gutierrez, also was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police said they are looking for the public’s help in a description of the vehicle.
