Joseph Eric Jones, a 23-year-old black man, was fatally shot Wednesday, Sept. 26, near Newport Avenue and Stanton Street in Pasadena, according to the Pasadena Police Department.

Officers responded to a report of gunshots about 12:10 a.m., according to the Pasadena Police Department.

Police found the victim nearby, and paramedics transported him to a local hospital, where he later died, officials said.

The suspect was described as a man in his late teens to early 20s.

Detectives ask anyone with information about the shooting to call police at (626) 744-4241. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.

oh my gosh, I just found this out a day ago I was so hurt joseph was my boyfriend when I was 14 my first love he meant and means a lot to me over the years I been looking for him search the internet and looking in the last city I knew he lived n joseph use to b n my brother class at peary middle school n gardena wow that really hurt my heart we had lost contact and due to me being in placement I couldn't really do to much but hes always been and will forever b dear to my heart crazy cuz my brother best friend was shot and killed n Vegas my sisters fiancé shot and killed on Vermont and elsegundo my other sister home boy in san Pedro and my baby joseph damn and my greatest lost my lil sister but she past due to having health complications and the hospital not knowing what to do. I pray that if it is a heaven that they made it in and there in paradise no worries suffering hell no negative no pain experiencing nothing but joy and happiness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love and miss u joseph eric jones and im so sorry

Joseph was my second Son. He was a brilliant young man who loved computers and video games. Joseph suffered from mental illness caused by damage to his brain from a car accident.
Joseph did not take care of himself and that night the Pasadena paramedics thought he was a bum or black gang member that got himself shot. The paramedics took there time with him and did not rush him to the hospital emergency. He died down the street from there. Joseph was African- American and Samoan. Pasadena is not safe. Our family was staying in an apartment until our luxury home above the Rose Bowl cleared escrow. Our family has a controlling interest in a cargo airline. Anyone is subject to a loss like this in Pasadena because this city is racist and very unsafe. Joseph was shot only six blocks from the Rose Bowl. I have filed a clam with the City of Pasadena to recover funds for the loss of our loved one and the City is taking it as a joke. We have not heard form them at all. Thank God I am wealthy enough to retain a capable attorney for our case. With the money I hope to recover, I plan to set up a scholarship in Joseph's name for brilliant and needy kids to attend universities like Stanford that Joseph was accepted too.
