A story for every victim

Juan Ruben Cuevas, 26

Juan Ruben Cuevas, a 26-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Wednesday, Jan. 9 near Beverly Boulevard and North Saint Andrews Place in Larchmont, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s records.

Shortly before 10:30 p.m., Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to a call of a shooting in the area, according to the LAPD. Once officers arrived, they were directed inside a liquor store where a wounded man, later identified as Cuevas, had gone to ask for help, said LAPD Det. Sean Kinchla.

Detectives determined that Cuevas was on the sidewalk when a person walked up to him and shot him, Kinchla said. Cuevas then went inside the store, he said.

The gunman was last seen running west on Beverly Boulevard, police said.

Cuevas was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:10 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

It’s unclear why Cuevas was shot, police said. He is not a documented gang member, Kinchla said.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call detectives at (213) 382-9470. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
