Juan Leon Villa, 36

Juan Villa, a 36-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Thursday, March 31, in the 1500 block of Blinn Avenue in Wilmington, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Villa was standing on a sidewalk when two attackers drove by shortly before midnight Wednesday. The passenger fired several rounds from a handgun, striking Villa in the torso, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Villa was pronounced dead a short while later at a hospital.

At least 44 homicides have been reported in Wilmington since January 2007, according to The Times Homicide Report database. Nearly all were slain by gunfire.

Detectives had not determined a motive for Villa's shooting.
