A story for every victim

Junior Jimenez, 22

Junior Jimenez, a 22-year-old Latino, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, after a fight in which he was beaten and stabbed in the 1100 block of East 10th Street in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Long Beach police received reports about a person being beaten about 9 p.m. on Aug. 18. When they arrived they found that Jimenez had been struck with a bottle during a fight, according to a department news release.

Jimenez was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead at 4:50 the next morning, according to coroner’s records. The cause of death is pending, but coroner's records show Jimenez was hit and stabbed with a glass bottle.

Enrique Pina Carrillo, a 50-year-old Latino from Long Beach, was arrested on suspicion of murder on Aug. 19, in the 800 block of East Pacific Coast Highway, according to the release.

Detectives aren’t sure why the fight began, but a news release said they believe Carrillo and Jimenez knew each other.

Carrillo was arraigned Friday, charged with one count of murder and using a deadly and dangerous weapon, according to L.A. County district attorney’s office spokesman Greg Risling. He pleaded not guilty.

His next hearing is set for Sept. 23 in Los Angeles County Superior Court in Long Beach. He is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
