A story for every victim

Kenneth Allen Schmitt, 28

Kenneth Allen Schmitt, a 28-year-old white man, died Saturday, Jan. 13, outside a business at 5951 Hollywood Blvd. in Hollywood after being stabbed, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

In the early-morning hours, a person working at a nightclub in the area saw Schmitt on the ground and thought he was sleeping, so the person covered him with a blanket, according to police and coroner’s records.

The next afternoon, workers at the nightclub noticed that Schmitt hadn’t moved and saw blood on the blanket and called 911, police said.

Paramedics pronounced Schmitt dead at the scene at 2:45 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Roy Antonio Davis, a 26-year-old black man, has been charged in connection with Schmitt’s death and also with the killing of a Santa Monica man days earlier, according to online jail records and the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Davis is suspected of killing John Hautz, 88, at his Santa Monica apartment. Hauz was found dead inside his home with multiple injuries on Jan. 1.

Davis was charged with two counts of murder and one count of first-degree burglary, prosecutors said. He has pleaded not guilty and is due back in court June 5.
