Kenneth Steve Ojeda, 23

Kenneth Steve Ojeda, a 23-year-old Latino, died Thursday, Dec. 29, after he was shot in the 9000 block of Compton Avenue in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Before he died, Ojeda told investigators he was standing near East 91st Street and Compton Avenue shortly after 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28, when he was approached by a Latino with a gun, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Jauch.

The gunman shot Ojeda in the back and upper torso and then fled, Jauch said. Ojeda ran north and then west into a courtyard, where he collapsed.

Deputies who were called to the scene found him lying on the ground, Jauch said.

Ojeda was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:28 a.m. the following day, according to coroner’s records.

Investigators don’t have a description of the suspect or information about how he left the scene, Jauch said.
