Lafferal Alexander, 59

Lafferal Alexander, a 59-year-old black man, was shot and killed Friday, Aug. 1, in the 1000 block of East Lexington Avenue in Pomona, according to coroner’s records.

Alexander and his sister-in-law, Bennie Jean Porter, 53, were sitting on a porch about 11:45 p.m. when a gunman or gunmen walked up to the front of the home and began shooting. It is unknown whether there were multiple shooters.

Lafferal was pronounced dead at 11:55 p.m. at the scene, according to coroner’s records. Porter died at a hospital.

The siblings were not robbed, and police are looking for a motive. 

“We don’t have any idea who shot them,” said police Lt. Ronald McDonald. “It’s not believed to be gang related.”

Police are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the person or persons responsible.
