Lewis Albert Gomez, 21

Lewis Albert Gomez, a 21-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Thursday, Aug. 22, near East 59th Place and Compton Avenue in Florence-Firestone, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s  records.

Gomez and another 21-year-old Latino were walking on the sidewalk about 11 p.m. when the two were approached by two black men, said Lt. Dave Coleman with the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department homicide bureau. An argument ensued and the two black men pulled out guns and began to shoot, Coleman said.

Gomez was taken to a hospital where he died at 11:59 p.m., coroner’s spokesman Ed Winter said.

The other shooting victim was treated and expected to survive, Coleman said.
