[Editor's note: Although the coroner's office identifies the victim as being 27 years old, LAPD officials said he was 29 at the time of his death.]

Several residents called police around 1:40 a.m. after hearing a gunshot, Los Angeles Police said.

When officers arrived at the scene, they located Lynshue laying in the street with a gunshot wound to his lower right chest. He was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police say Lynshue told officers that a Latino shooter drove up in a gray, American-made car and shot him before driving away.
