Linda Darnell Trotter, 55

Linda Darnell Trotter, a 55-year-old black woman, was shot and killed Sunday, Nov. 25, in the 6400 block of South Vermont Avenue in Vermont-Slauson, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Trotter was sitting on a mattress when she was shot about 11:35 p.m., said Los Angeles Police Det. Robert Lait. Police believe a group of nearby young men, rather than Trotter, was the intended target.

"She just collaterally got hit in the shooting,” Lait said.

Trotter, who was believed to be homeless, was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:44 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Police said it was unknown whether the shooter walked up and opened fire or shot from a vehicle.
