A story for every victim

Luis Vazquez, 44

Luis Vazquez, a 44-year-old Latino, was fatally stabbed Friday, July 11, in the 1600 block of West 35th Street in Exposition Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly before 5 p.m., Vazquez was sitting on a curb drinking a beverage under a tree when a black man thought to be in his late 20s or early 30s walked up to him, said LAPD Det. Sal LaBarbera.

Without provocation, the man stabbed Vazquez then fled on foot toward South Western Avenue, LaBarbera said.

Vazquez was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:30 p.m., said Ed Winter, a spokesman with the coroner’s office.
