Mao Eng, 15

Mao Eng, a 15-year-old Asian youth, died Tuesday, June 15, a day after he was shot in the 400 block of Dawson Avenue in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Mao, of Long Beach, was approached by two males on bicycles about 2:15 a.m. Monday, according to a Long Beach Police Department news release. One of the males then pulled out a handgun and shot Mao in the torso, police said.

The victim was taken to a local hospital ,where he was listed in stable condition; however he died a day later from his injuries, according to coroner's records.

Investigators described the assailants as two male Latinos in their late teens or early 20s.

A motive for the shooting remains unknown, although it's being investigated as possibly gang-related, police said.
