A story for every victim

Marcelo Campos, 62

Marcelo Campos, a 62-year-old Latino, was stabbed to death Tuesday, Nov. 7, in the 900 block of West 84th Street in Vermont Knolls, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Campos was standing on the northeast corner of the street about 6:30 p.m. when a man wearing a shirt or a sweater as a head wrap stabbed him, Los Angeles Police Det. Chris Barling said.

The assailant ran north on South Vermont Avenue, Barling said.

Police are unsure why Campos, who recently had moved to the area, was targeted and said he wasn’t involved in gangs or other criminal activity.

Authorities said a suspect was arrested and later released because of lack of evidence. The investigation is ongoing.
