Marcus Walker, 20 [Updated]

Marcus Walker, a 20-year-old black man, died Thursday, Jan. 13, two days after he was shot near Alondra Boulevard and Aprilia Avenue in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Walker was shot about noon Jan. 11, said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office.

He was taken to a hospital with wounds to his head and leg and died there Jan. 13 at 8 a.m.

Winter had no other information about the case. The Times has contacted detectives to get more details about the investigation and will post an update as soon as possible.

[Update Jan. 20: Sheriff’s homicide Det. Traci Gonzalez, who is handling the case, said on the day of the shooting, Walker was approached by three men about 2 p.m. and shot.
Authorities were called and he was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center where he died.

Walker was associated with a gang, and the assailants are believed to be gang members, she said.

The shooters were described as black males, approximately 18 to 25 years old.
