Marisol Aguayo (2010-11-26)

Marisol Aguayo, a 22-year-old Latina, was fatally shot Friday, Nov. 26, while driving west on the 91 Freeway near the Wilmington Avenue exit in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

The car-to-car shooting occurred about 8:15 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Guillermina Saldana.

Authorities said Aguayo was able to drive to a gas station but died before she could be taken to a hospital.

Investigators said they had no motive or suspect information at this time.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call detectives at (323) 890-5500, or call anonymously at (800) 222-TIPS.

[Update Dec. 2: Aguayo was a passenger in the car when she was shot, said sheriff's homicide Det. Tod Anderson, who is handling the case. Although detectives said Aguayo was 29, the coroner's office says she was 22.

Anderson said a male acquaintance of Aguayo's who was driving the vehicle was not hit by gunfire.

"There is nothing definitive to say they were targeted," Anderson said.

Investigators are asking the public's help for more information about the shooting. Anyone driving west on the 91 freeway between Avalon Boulevard and the 710 Freeway Nov. 26 from 8 to 8:15 p.m. is asked to contact Det. Anderson or Angus Ferguson at (323) 890-5601.]
