Mark Gonzalez, 44

Mark Gonzalez, a 44-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Thursday, Jan. 28 near 7th and Flower avenues in Venice, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 8:15 p.m., Gonzalez was walking to a supermarket when he was confronted by a gunman and shot, said Los Angeles police Det. John Skaggs.

Police are trying to determine what prompted the confrontation. Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:24 p.m., according to coroner's records.

Skaggs said Gonzalez was a lifelong resident of the area.

The gunman is described as a Latino wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt. He is believed to have left the area in a tan small SUV east on Flower Avenue, Skaggs said.

Police are unsure whether one or two people were involved.
