Mark Joseph Rodriguez, 18

Mark Rodriguez, an 18-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Thursday, Feb. 2, in the 8200 block of Sorenson Avenue in Santa Fe Springs, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Officers responded to a call at a hospital about two gunshot victims about 6:02 p.m., according to a Whittier Police Department news release.

When authorities arrived, they learned that Rodriguez was in a car with several other people when a vehicle pulled up next to them and someone inside began shooting.

Rodriguez and another person, who were in the backseat, were struck by the gunfire. They were driven to hospital where Rodriguez was pronounced dead. Coroner's records show he died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

The second victim is in critical condition, authorities said.

After the shooting, sheriff deputies arrested three men in connection with the incident: Jason Uzel, a 37-year-old Latino from Whittier; Brian Recinos, a 22-year-old Latino from Whittier; and Frank Ramos, a 44-year-old Latino from Eureka. All three are being held at the Men's Central Jail in downtown.

Authorities said the shooting was gang-related.
