Markeish Deon Pirtle, 30

Markeish Deon Pirtle, a 30-year-old black man, was shot and killed Sunday, March 19, in the 3700 block of Chesapeake Avenue in Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 1:35 a.m., people in the area heard gunshots and called police, said Los Angeles Police Det. Dave Garrido.

Police found Pirtle, who had been shot, on a sidewalk. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:35 a.m., according to coroner's records.

Investigators believe that a person got out of a car and approached Pirtle before shooting him. A black sedan was seen leaving the scene, Garrido said.
