Martin Valdovinos, 43 [Updated]

Martin Valdovinos, a 43-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Friday, Jan. 28, in the 4400 block of South Towne Avenue in South Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Valdovinos was shot about 9:42 p.m. during a "drug deal gone wrong," said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office.

He was taken to California Hospital Medical Center where he died at 10:05 p.m. from several gunshot wounds.

Coroner’s officials had no other information about the case.

The Times has contacted detectives to get more details about the investigation and will post more information as soon as it becomes available.

[Update Feb. 8: LAPD Newton Det. Richard Arciniega, who is handling the case, said Valdovinos was selling drugs when he was shot.

Two days after the shooting, police arrested a person of interest, however he has yet to be charged, Arciniega said. The case is being reviewed by the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.
