Melvin Buford, 35

Melvin Buford, a 35-year-old black man, was stabbed shortly before midnight Friday, March 12, in the 8800 block of South Vermont Avenue in Westmont and died early the next morning, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Buford was standing outside a liquor store about 11:45 p.m., when he got into a fight that led to his stabbing, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said. He was taken by paramedics to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:39 a.m. on Saturday, March 13, according to coroner records.

Authorities are searching for two black men in connection with the stabbing, but further details were not released. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the sheriff's homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500. Callers can remain anonymous.
