A story for every victim

Moises David Castro, 25

Moises Castro, a 25-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Monday, March 29, in the 2500 block of Michigan Avenue in Boyle Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Det. Jose Ramirez of the LAPD's Hollenbeck Division said Castro was confronted by three male suspects in an alley about 1:05 p.m. The men exchanged words and one of the suspects produced a gun, shooting Castro in the upper body.

Authorities were called and the victim was taken to County USC Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Ramirez said.

Shortly after the shooting, officers received information that the assailants were hiding out in an apartment. Police arrived at the apartment, interviewed everyone inside and arrested the three suspects in connection with Castro's death, Ramirez said.

In the felony complaint provided by the Los Angeles County district attorney's office, the assailants have been identified as Jonathan Gutierrez, a 20-year-old Latino; David Contreras, a 17-year-old Latino; and Andrew Garcia, a 16-year-old Latino.

All three have been charged with one count of murder, said a spokesman for the district attorney's office. Gutierrez is being held at the North County Correctional Facility in Castaic, and the two teenagers are in a juvenile detention facility.
