Narda Huerta (2011-03-06)

Narda Huerta, a 48-year-old Latina female, was fatally stabbed late Saturday, March 5, in the 2800 block of Fairmount Street in Boyle Heights and died early the next morning, according to authorities.

Huerta was allegedly attacked by her boyfriend in an assault that also left her 23-year-old son with minor injuries when he tried to protect her, police said.

The stabbing occurred about midnight, said Los Angeles police Sgt. Richard Sanchez. Huerta was taken to County-USC Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Her son sustained a superficial wound to the face, Sanchez said. The suspect, who was not identified, was taken into custody.

Sanchez said the suspect was visiting Huerta at her home when the two got into a dispute. Huerta was stabbed in the neck.

"The suspect also stabbed the victim's son who intervened and managed to disarm and subdue the suspect until police arrival," Sanchez said.

A small knife was recovered from the scene.
