Van Nuys man sentenced in box-cutter slaying of girlfriend

A Van Nuys man who stabbed his girlfriend to death with a box cutter was sentenced Thursday to 12 years in prison, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Osmar Rolando Gomez, 42, entered a no contest plea March 24 to one count of voluntary manslaughter for killing Klaudia Yesenia Alas, 32.

On March 24, 2015, Gomez was sitting in a truck  Alas in an alley near Lemay Street and Kester Avenue in Van Nuys. Gomez fatally stabbed Alas as she sat in the front passenger of the vehicle after the couple got into a violent argument, prosecutors said.

Gomez then called police and said three Latinos in a black truck had attacked the couple. Police canvassed the neighborhood but found no evidence to corroborate Gomez’s account.

After police did not turn up leads, they arrested Gomez on suspicion of murder.
