Past case: 19-year-old sentenced in 2000 murder

A 19-year-old man was sentenced Sept. 3, 2004, to state prison for the May 2000 killing of a Hoover High student, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.

Rafael Gevorgyan was sentenced to 18 years in state prison for his involvement in the murder of Raul Aguirre-Luna.

Gevorgyan, the last of three defendants to be sentenced in the case, was convicted of manslaughter in July 2004.

Aguirre-Luna, 17, died May 5, 2000, after being stabbed and beaten in the 600 block of Glenwood Road in Glendale.

Aguirre-Luna and a former Hoover High student were waiting at a bus stop when the defendants pulled up in a car and attacked the former student. Aguirre-Luna came to the former student's aid and was stabbed multiple times and struck in the face with a tire iron.

Aguirre-Luna was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:42 p.m.

The three defendants were arrested several hours later.

Karen Terteryan, 21, pleaded guilty to stabbing Aguirre-Luna in July 2004 and was sentenced to 23 years and eight months in state prison.

Anait Msryan, 18, pleaded guilty to attempted murder in 2003 and was given a seven-year term with the California Youth Authority. She was 14 years old at the time of the murder.
