A story for every victim

Pete Richard Cordero, 35

Pete Richard Cordero, a 35-year-old Latino, died Sunday, Nov.  22, after he was shot in the 5000 block of Raphael Street in Highland Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Los Angeles Police Department officers went to the area about 2 a.m. after receiving a report about shots fired, according to a department news release. They found Cordero behind the wheel of his car with multiple gunshot wounds.

Cordero was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:05 a.m., according to coroner's records.

Investigators believe the shooting is gang-related, said LAPD Northeast Homicide Division Det. Martee Miyakawa, but they don't have any suspect information.

"All we have is radio calls from people who heard shots fired," Miyakawa said.

Cordero's white Toyota Tundra was parked on the street, near his home, but investigators don't know why he was in his car, she said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Ryan Watterson of LAPD's Northeast Homicide Division at (323) 561-3465. Those wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
