Rene Pichardo, identified by the coroner's office as a 26-year-old white man, died Friday, Feb. 11, 12 days after he was stabbed in the 15000 block of Howellhurst Drive in Baldwin Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office, said Pichardo was stabbed several times Jan. 30 about 2:57 a.m.

He was taken to County-USC Medical Center where he remained until his death Feb. 11 at 2:42 a.m.

The coroner's office had no other information about the case.

The Times has contacted detectives to get more details about the investigation and will post an update as soon as possible.

[Updated Feb. 18, 12:00 p.m.: Sheriff's homicide Det. Linda Muse, who is handling the case, said Pichardo was Latino, not a white man as previously reported by the coroner.

She said a fight between Pichardo and people at the location led to the stabbing.

There have been no arrests made in connection with the case and there is no description of the assailant.

Pichardo was not a gang-member, Muse said.]

Anyone with information about the death of Rene Pichardo is asked to contact Det. Muse at the sheriff's homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500. Tipsters who'd like to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
