Ricardo Gaytan Ramirez, a 36-year-old Latino, died Tuesday, July 18, after he was shot in the 400 block of Union Drive in Westlake, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Ramirez was at a car wash fundraiser for a friend who had been fatally shot by police when a sedan drove by about 2:30 p.m. July 15, and shots were fired from the car, Los Angeles Police Det. John Melendez said.

Ramirez and another person were wounded in the shooting. Ramirez was taken to a hospital, where he died three days later. The other person is expected to survive.

Melendez said the shooter’s vehicle may have been a green or gray Honda Accord with paper plates. No words were exchanged before the shooting, he said.

Ricardo was an awesome Man and Friend! Loyal, Respectful, Honest, Humble, and Loving! His loves in life were his family and Baseball. I'm glad I had the privilege to play with such an awesome talent as Ricardo. My most memorable recollection of us two on the field was a time we both agreed that whoever hit a homerun first, earned the right to wear the number 13. Well as the game began Ricardo was up first in the line up and I directly after him followed. BAMMM!!! Not to far into the count he hits a homerun over Right field. Of course as i go congratulate him at the plate for his homerun he says to me, " The 13 is mine." I shake it off, because now I am even more so determined not to let him have the number so easily. I step to plate and 3 pitches into the count BAMMM, I too hit a homerun. So as I enter the dugout Ricardo and I come to another agreement. Whoever hits the very next homerun gets the number 13 no questions asked. Well, the hitting battle went on for 6 more innings and neither one of us hit another homerun. So as the grown adults that we are, we determined that the owner of the number 13 shall be decided by the winner of a game of Paper, Rock, Scissors. In the end, Ricardo took the #13 home with him. Today and Forever our baseball team, "Plebada" will always remember #13 Ricardo Ramirez as great friend, brother, son, husband, and teammate! Forever In Our Hearts Ricardo!
