A story for every victim

Ricardo Quintero Jr., 40

Ricardo Quintero Jr., a 40-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Tuesday, June 23, in the 1100 block of Milton Street near Torrance, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

The incident in West Carson, an unincorporated area, began about 6:08 p.m. when Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies received a call about a gunshot victim, according to Lt. John Corina.

Investigators found Quintero in the driver’s seat of his car with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:55 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Witnesses reported seeing a white SUV drive up alongside the victim’s car and shoot him. The vehicle then drove away, heading west on Milton Street.

Quintero lived in the neighborhood, and was parked on the street just a short distance from his home, where he lived with his wife and children, Corina said.

“It appears like it’s gang related, and somebody mistook him for somebody else,” Corina said. “He was not involved in a gang as far as we know.”

Anyone with information should contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
