Ricco Donnell Holland, 38

Ricco Donnell Holland, a 38-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday, June 13 in the 1700 block of West Vernon Avenue in Vermont Square, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Holland was standing outside a market shortly before 8:30 p.m. when he exchanged words with two black men, said LAPD Det. Dave Garrido. One of the men pulled out a handgun and opened fire, wounding Holland.

Holland collapsed on the sidewalk and the assailants ran to a waiting sedan, Garrido said.

Holland was pronounced dead at the scene as 8:46 p.m., said Ed Winter, assistant chief of investigations for the coroner’s office.
