Robert Velasquez, 17 [Updated]

Robert Velasquez, a 17-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Monday, Nov. 1, in the 4100 block of Zola Avenue in Pico Rivera, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner's office, said Velasquez was the victim of a drive-by shooting. He was shot at 10:50 p.m. and pronounced dead at the scene at 11:12 p.m., Winter said.

According to coroner's records, Velasquez suffered gunshot wounds to his right arm and to the upper right side of his torso.

Winter said no arrests were made after the shooting.

The Times has contacted investigators to get more information about the case and will provide an update as soon as possible.

[Update Nov. 15: Sheriff's  homicide Lt. Mike Rosson said there have been no arrests made in connection with the case.

Witnesses to the shooting said the assailants were Latinos driving an early 2000 light-colored SUV.

Rosson said that although Velasquez had no gang affiliation, the shooters are believed to be gang members.
