Roy Thomas, a 54-year-old black man, died Thursday, March 24, in the 1000 block of East 24th Street in Historic South-Central, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office, said Thomas was found in a parked car with possible head trauma about 1:38 p.m.

Authorities were called and Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene.

Winter said a cause of death has been deferred pending additional lab tests. Results will not be available for at least six to eight weeks, he said.

[Update Jan. 12, 2012: The coroner's office has since determined Thomas died from liver cirrhosis and left ventricular hypertrophy, or an enlargement of the heart muscle. His death has been ruled as natural.]
